Crossing Over

Love Triangles Anonymous

CLAMP, and anime in general, need help...

Okay, honestly, in life what are the odds of a girl finding one guy she truly loves who truly loves her back, let alone two?  I know it makes good drama, but you can't live in a world of threesomes.  I'm sorry, eventually you have to choose.  To make matters worse, in general one, if not both, of the guys hardly know the girl and she hardly knows them.  How is a guy you met five minutes ago serious competition for the guy you've loved half your life, even if your life has only been 14 years... and CLAMP always tries to leave the decision unmade.  Honestly, what gives?  Take Rayearth.  Heaven only knows why Hikura and Lantis first start to develop feelings for one another, but once they've started I can see those feelings growing to real love.  But Eagle?  So the guys from Autozam have a thing for cute, sweet, girls. That doesn't explain why Hikaru would like a man who has essentially been her enemy for most of the time she's known him, as much as she likes the man who has looked after her.  And stupid CLAMP (at least in the manga) has it end with her saying she wants to marry both of them... and not just that she wants "to be with everyone in Cephiro forever."  She wants to marry the whole world?  At some point the girl has got to grow up and get a clue.  Fortunately in the anime she actually makes a choice (though in the anime Eagle's feelings are pretty blatantly one-sided). I know love triangles are a staple in anime (and soap opera ^_^) entertainment, but can't we have some resolution?  You have to wonder what these people's personal lives are like.  What happened to the days of happy endings and couples who lived happily ever after?  I didn't see Cinderella hooking up with Prince Charming, with the Duke tagging along... come on now!  That's not love it's porn.  And who would want to put up with two lovers?  It's like Around the World in 80 days (the movie) where the Schwartzeneger character says he has "one wife for every day of the week; how does Tuesday work for you?"  Only worse because how many guys would be willing to go on a rotating shift?  None that I know.

If it hurts so much to make the chic choose just make one of the guys less wonderful and it'll be that much easier.  Or, let him be a man and give way for the woman he loves to be happy.  Still sad, but at least it isn't perverted.  If you ask me the girls just haven't any backbone.  You think it will hurt him less to have you admit you love another guy better than to tell him "I love you equally, you'll have to share."?  I give kudos to Zettai Kareshi on this one.  At least Soushi makes her choose, even though it hurts them both.  Plus, the fact is that love is as much a decision as it is an emotion, and mature people get over heart break all the time. In fact, if you think you're in love with two people eventually you realize that one is not really romantic love, and that person will probably realize the same thing.  I know fantasy isn't reality.  I'm happy for that.  But do we have to make it non-reality that is so depressing and twisted?

Besides, can you imagine how tiring it would be to deal with two men everyday of your life?  I have a dad and a brother, and it's hard enough to get along with both of them, and they don't fight over who gets to hold my hand (because that would be incest, and that's just sick beyond belief.)  I think I'd kill myself if I had to juggle two men who both wanted to spend "quality time" with me, ya know what I mean?  And forget that, just picking up after them would be murder.  And how would you ever win the battle for the remote during any season.  There's always some stupid sport or another on, and you know those guys would gang up on you!

And guys... you know you couldn't deal with two women every day for the rest of your life (no matter what your less realistic fantasies entail).  Just one fact for you: women living in the same house of synchronized PMS - it's true!  You'd be lucky to make it through the first month.  They only managed it in the old days because it was before women's suffrage.  We aren't nearly as docile now ^_^
