Anime: Magic Knight Rayearth 2

History and Personality: He is a well-known and respected commander from Cephiro's neighboring country, Autozam, a technologically advanced world reliant on the mental energy of its citizens for its power. At once an enigmatic but fierce warrior and a gentle and chivalrous gentleman, he is the leader of Autozam's invasion of Cephiro. His father is the President of Autozam. When Lantis visits Autozam, the two become close friends.

Eagle comes to Cephiro in hopes of duplicating the Pillar System back on his home world which is running out of power. Though Lantis has told him how terrible it is to be the pillar Eagle does not care about losing his freedom. This is because Eagle is actually very sick and wasn't even supposed to be alive by the time he made it to Cephiro. Eagle reveals to Hikaru that he wishes to become the Pillar to spare Lantis' life and then he will sleep forever with Cephiro.  Eagle captures Hikaru and the two actually get along very well.  IN the end the choice for the pillar comes down to Eagle and Hikaru and they reach a compromise - whichever one becomes the Pillar will help accomplish the other's goal.  After this he joins the Macig Knights in fighting Debonair.

In the end of the manga, Hikaru tells him it is unfair of him to leave all his loved ones behind and saves him, bringing him back to Cephiro and putting him on the way to restoring his health. In the anime, however, Eagle sacrifices himself in order to save the Magic Knights.

Relationships: Eagle is soft spoken in general and so he gets along well with his men.  They are very loyal to him, though they sometimes become upset with his stubborn determination to take all the risk himself... His second in command, Geo Metro, is like an older brother to him.  Though Geo generally follows orders and has great respect for Eagle as a military leader he does not hesitate to step in when Eagle is putting himself in danger. The two seem to be close and Eagle only reveals his weakness before Geo, but he hides his illness from him.

When Lantis left Cephiro he spent a great deal of time in Autozam.  He was the only person ever to beat Eagle in a competition of fighting machines.  The two became close friends and Lantis tells Eagle all about Cephiro.  It is obvious the two still care for one another, they even protect one another, but they are able to keep their friendship separate from their battles.  In this delicate balance Eagle is rather contradictory because he tells Lantis not to forget that he is the enemy when Lantis saves him from Nova, and then proceeds to turn around and save Lantis...

Eagle and Hikaru hit it off almost immediately, which is amazing considering that he had kidnapped her at the time and had already fought her twice... the relationship is never explained in the anime, but Nova says that Hikaur 'does not hate' Eagle, and later claims that Hikaur 'loves' Eagle - though not in the way she loves Lantis.  Eagle seems surprised by this, but he appears to be very fond of Hikaru as well.  In the manga Hikaru seems to developed a romantic interest in him (and in Lantis.  She says she wants to marry both of them, but then she also says she wants to remain with everyone in Cephiro forever in the same sentence, the way she says it implies that she wants to marry all of Cephiro... so we have to wonder about her feelings.)

Techniques: .. None, really.  Umm.. he pilots the FTO, a very quick and agile mecha type robot.  He is evidently very good as, before he met the Magic Knights, only Lantis had ever defeated him (and considering that was a who-knows-how-old magic swordsman versus less than 17 year old kid... that ain't bad.)

Trivia: In the OVA he is Emeraude's brother and does his best to keep his sister happy. This includes trying to destroy Earth because he's certain that's what his sister wants.

He's named after the Eagle Vision and his mecha is named after the Mitsubishi FTO.  In fact, a lot of characters in Season 2 are named after cars (Geo Metro anyone?)

Eagle also appears in the latest crossover manga by Clamp Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle He appears in Chapter 136 of the manga when the TRC cast visited the country/world of Infinity. He is a part of the Vision family that sponsors a real life chess game which the master (Sakura) can wield the pieces (Fai, Kurugane, Shaoran) with her thoughts. His family in fact is part of the mafia. Part of his cast is Lantis and Geo.

Why we love him: Amazing warrior and strategist who is a chivalrous and gentleman at heart?  How could we not?  And then there is the angst of his tragic disease and his death.  Plus, you know, he's cute when he isn't wearing that weird head thing... what is that anyway?
