History and Personality: Solemn and reclusive, Lantis' closed manner often puts other adults at odds with him, but he is kind at heart and gentle in nature. In fact, Lantis can be quite friendly and is a favorite with the children. Though he is a powerful warrior and can be intimidating he is comforting and does not hold grudges. The younger brother of Zagato (former High Priest of Cephiro, misguided villain of MKR I, and the man in love with Princess Emeraude), Lantis left Cephiro to see other worlds because he believed the pillar system was wrong. This was in part due to the fact that it kept his brother and the Princess from being allowed to love one another. After being gone many, many years, Lantis returns to Cephiro to break the pillar system. Upon his return many magic users do not trust him, but he proves himself to be a loyal ally. The Magic Knights, and Hikaru in particular, originally approach him out of a feeling of guilt for having killed his brother, but he quickly puts them at ease. He joins them in their fight to protect Cephiro from outside invaders, even though Eagle, leader of the Autozam forces, is a friend of his from his stay on that world. Lantis becomes a key player in the anime because of his relationship with Hikaru. Nova, her shadow mirror self, is after him because Hikaru is in love with him. Nova tries to convince Hikaru that Lantis hates her, but in the end Lantis proves her wrong, confessing his feelings before Hikaru is forced to return to her own world. With the pillar system broken Lantis stays behind to help rebuild Cephiro.
Relationships: Lantis and Eagle became friendsduring Lantis' stay on Autozam during his years of wandering. The two became fast friends when Lantis became the first, and only, person to defeat Eagle in mecha combat. Eagle has great respect for Lantis (who seems to view him as a younger brother), but will not accept his advice regarding Cephiro and the negative aspects of the pillar system. Being forced to fight against him causes Lantis great pain, and he is relieved when Eagle finally joins him in saving Cephiro.
Lantis becomes the love interest of Hikaru though the degree of their relationship differs from the manga to the anime. In the anime Hikaru loves him all along, but Lantis' feelings are unclear until the very end, when he confesses to her before letting her go. In the manga it is Lantis who is clearly in love with Hikaru, but her feelings seem torn between Lantis and Eagle, and remain somewhat ambiguous even to the end when he asks if she will stay with him and she states that she wants to marry him... and Eagle... and all of Cephiro... the girl is obviously confused...

Trivia: Both the English and Japanese voice actors for Lantis were also the voice actors for Zagato in MKR I.
Lantis appears in the chess volume of CLAMP's Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle, along with several other MKR II characters.
As with all the male characters introduced in MKR II Lantis' name comes from a Japanese car. In this case the Mazda Lantis.
Why we love him: Tall, handsome, powerful, gentle, and idealistic... why not? If Hikaru can't make up her mind I'll take him off her hands no questions asked. Of course, he's probably too loyal to accept my offer. Darn it all anyway!
