History and Personality: Nakago is the leader of all the Seiryu warriors and the main antagonist in the TV series, his cold demeanor and presence are often the drive behind Yui's decisions during the early stages of the story. His warriors are loyal to him due to a mixture of awe and fear. His life force is superior to all of the Suzaku warriors combined. When he was younger, he accidentally killed his mother and her assaulter, due to uncontrollable powers. The Emperor of Kutou learned that he was one of the Seiryu's seishi, hence he became the Kutou's general, commanding two-thirds of the Kutou army. . He arrives at the Real World, attempting to take it over, but is killed by Tamahome when Miaka Yuki finally seals away Seiryu. Nakago manipulates Miaka's best friend Yui, turning her against Miaka and convincing her to summon Seiryu.  He treats her well, and even claims to love her, but in reality he wants to use her wishes to become a god.  he will stop at nothing to accomplish this goal.

His name is a misnomer (a dwelling for the heart); his plans and actions show a complete lack of mercy. He allows for no emotional distraction nor wasted action. Once someone's usefulness is exhausted, the person is eliminated. On the other hand, he has an undeniable charisma which allows him to skillfully manipulate people. But what goes on in his mind is a mystery.

Nakago is the last of the Hin tribe. The emperor of Kotou had sent out his soldiers to destroy the Hin tribe as they were hated by everyone. Nakago's mother was raped by the soldiers in front of him when he was a little boy, at this point Nakago used his life force blast and killed the soldiers and his mother. The soldiers recognized him as one of the Seiryuu warriors and they took him to the emperor. When Nakago faces the Emperor to take over Kutou the emperor claims to have "favored" Nakago all his life.  How exactly Nakago was treated is left somewhat vague, but it is clear that Nakago hates the Emperor.

Relationships: Nakago has no friends, though he pretends to be a friend to Yui.  The only person he seems to care for at all is Soi, a fellow warrior.  She possesses the ability to manipulate chi through intimacy, and for this reason he takes her as his lover.  However, it appears that he has some deeper feelings for her as he is concerned for her health on several occasions, and he carries her body with him after her death.

Nakago and Tamahome have a strange sort of rivalry as the dominant seishi in their respective parties.  Tamahome hates Nakago, and Nakago looks down on Tamahome, taking every opportunity to belittle, mock, and discomfort the younger man.

Techniques: Nakago carries a whip and a sword (though he never uses his sword); his seishi abilities are chi manipulation and psycho kinesis.  He can shoot energy blasts from his palms and his ability to use spells is even more powerful than Chichiri's. 

Trivia: Nakago enjoys making Tamahome uncomfortable... whatever that takes, which can lead to some... interesting moments.

            Interestingly enough, Nakago is the favorite character of series creator Yu Watase, as noted on several occasions in the chapter notes, as well in the second installment of the omake, "Tale of the Forbidden Women's Hot Spring" from the series 1 OVA (as stated by Nakago himself).

Why we love him: I refuse to answer on the grounds that it might incriminate me! Uh... he's hot, and seductive, and the poor thing is traumatized!  He was bound to be a little messed in the head... but even Taitsukun thinks he has a good character deep down. (You just have to dig it out with a bulldozer or two...)
