The Evolutionary War

Our heroes are still island hopping and the next stop is the ABC islands, a group of three islands named… A, B, and C… on the way there they see some interesting pokemon.  Then they see some kids riding on Hunttail and Gorybis.  Both of these pokemon evolve from clampearl in a branching evolution.  Two of the children seem as though they don’t get along.  Close behind them come two younger children riding small boats.  These two are fighting as well.  This sparks our heroes’ curiosity.

Team Rocket is watching “the twerps” as usual, but their sub gets stuck between rocks and then floods.

Ash and co head to the pokemon center as soon as they land on A island.  Brock’s gushing is interrupted by a call.  Someone on B island wants Joy to look at her corselaA island is the only one of the three with a pokemon center, but the other two islands have transporters to send their pokemon.  As soon as the pokemon arrives everyone is again interrupted by an argument nearby.  Nurse Joy opens a door to reveal a classroom.  The children from earlier are all inside and the first two are arguing over who has the stronger pokemon.  Nurse Joy teaches the island children every day.   Nurse Joy tells them that on Island B clampearl evolve into Gorybis and those on Island C into Hunttail.  So the people from the islands constantly argue. They all head to the outdoor pool for their next class.  There the kids are pestering Professor Birch about their pokemon.  Birch came to do research but decided to play with the pokemon first.  Nurse Joy asks him to speak to her students.

The first thing they want to know is why clampearl evolve differently.  He knows it depends on whether they have a deep sea tooth or a deep sea scale, but the reason he is there is to see why that matters.  He’s going to island C first and Ash and co go along.  The youngest girl, Nancy, volunteers to show them around, but the youngest boy from island B, Keith, follows.  Professor Birch asks him to show them around island B.  Of course, the Nancy follows them as well.  On both islands the kids show them caves with natural freshwater waterfalls.  Local legends say that these caves are where you should take your clampearl to evolve.  Birch takes samples of water from each place.  The kids want to know what Professor Birch has found out and then he looks at their clampearl.  The interesting thing about these two kids is that they like the opposite pokemon that the rest of their islands like.

Team Rocket returns and decides to take the pokemon.  They interrupt Professor Birch’s explanation about the water from the caves. A pokemon battle begins and corfish, along with both clampearl, take out Team Rocket.  That finished everyone heads to island B.  They find a deep sea scale and Keith gives it to Nancy and she gives it to her clampearl, but nothing happens.  Professor Birch tells her to send it to the pokemon center and they’ll investigate later.  They head to C island where Nancy finds a deep sea tooth and gives it to Keith for his clampearl, but it doesn’t evolve either.  They send it to the pokemon center and then head out themselves.  At the pokemon center they call out their pokemon and both evolve at the same time.  For some reason it just took a while…  They take them outside for a swim, but Team Rocket attacks in a Kingler machine.  Nancy and Keith are rather good, and always call out the same attacks at the same time.  But it’s Ash and Grovile who free the pokemon, and it is Pikachu, with Hunttail, who sends Team Rocket flying once again.

With compliments to Nancy and Keith our heroes head for the next island, but Professor Birch decides to stay and continue his research.  Just before our heroes get out of site Nancy and Keith come out and tell them that the islands are getting along better now, and even trading pokemon.  Looks like another happy ending.

Notes:             Nurse Joy didn’t know who Birch was!  I mean she didn’t realize the man staying at the center was him…

A professor who doesn’t think he teaches well?

James asks Cacnea if it is teething…

Cacnea shoots pin missile at corfish while still mugging James…
