Rough, Tough, Jigglypuff

Our heroes just got caught in a net, but surprise, surprise, it wasn’t set by Team Rocket.  It was set by a very apologetic man with a loudred.  The man takes them back to a cabin where he introduces himself as Mitch Mitchem.  He used to be an executive at a pokeblok company.  Mitch lets them try the last pokeblok he helped create.  It’s actually very good.  It turns out Mitch is trying to catch a wild jigglypuff.  The jigglypuff shows up just then and it looks pretty tough.  Mitch attacks it with his loudred.  But jigglypuff withstands even strong attacks and it charms loudred into incapacity.  Then it puts everyone but loudred to sleep and takes off.  It seems to find the whole situation funny.

Team Rocket is floating overhead in their balloon and decide to catch the pokemon themselves.

Back at the cabin all the pokemon are on the lookout for jigglypuff.  While everyone is inside Mitch tells them about his past.  He has a wife and a daughter, named Lisa, who will soon be five.  He hasn’t seen her in six months.  It turns out she is the reason he is out trying to catch a jigglypuff.  He asked for time off and headed out.  But his daughter’s birthday is tomorrow and he still hasn’t caught the jigglypuff.  And he won’t go home without one.  Ash volunteers to help Mitch out.

Team Rocket is eating lunch when jigglypuff appears.  When they try to catch it, it attacks them with fire and then sings them to sleep.  In the cabin loudred hears and they all set off after jigglypuff.  Our heroes arrive to find jigglypuff eating Team Rocket’s lunch.  Loudred and Pikachu both attack, but jigglypuff knows roll out!  It rolls over Team Rocket and they wake up.  They don’t get to do much because Mitch mistakes them for Ash’s friends, and then they get knocked away.

Brock decides they should try to outsmart jigglypuff instead of battling it.  They lure it with Brock’s special poke food, but jigglypuff turns up its nose at it.  Max says they should put jigglypuff to sleep.   They challenge jigglypuff to a battle and then trap it in the cabin.  Once inside jigglypuff finds the room empty except for Pikachu.  The walls look a little strange too.  The look like they’re covered with metal.  Pikachu wants jigglypuff to use sing, but it keeps using other attacks.  When it finally sings they hope the metal walls will echo the song back and make jigglypuff fall asleep.  It looks like it is working.  Jigglypuff falls asleep and everyone sneaks in.  They wake Pikachu uietly and then Mitch tries to catc hjigglypuff.  But something seems to be wrong.  Mitch has decided that jigglypuff belongs in the forest, so he decides to leave it behind.  Mitch has decided to give Lisa his loudred instead.  He bids the sleeping jigglypuff farewell and heads out.  That night jigglypuff awakes to find an empty room with some food and an open door.  It looks sad.

Our heroes accompany Mitch home and his family is happy to see him.  At first Lisa is disappointed, but after they explain she is very happy and says Mitch is the best dad ever.  And then, as they hug, Jigglypuff comes floating down.  It seems very upset with Mitch.  Brock thinks it liked Mitch chasing it so it followed them.  Mitch asks jigglypuff if it wants to stay and it says yes.

Notes: And no one comments that they’ve never seen a loudred in Kanto before…

Mitch’s hair is kinda wild looking.

Why do they have floating computerized notes when jiggly sings?  They never did that before and it was fine.

                        That jigglypuff is evil.

That man needs to learn that his daughter probably wants him more than any pokemon.

Why does jigglypuff know a fire attack?  And why are all its attacks done with computerized graphics?  That’s so tacky…  I wish they’d quite trying to “improve” this show and just end it.

Aren’t they kind of cheating using two pokemon against jigglypuff?

Wow, jigglypuff’s song really knocked it out… it sleeps all the way until night.

Lisa wants to sing with jigglypuff?  Not a smart girl…
