Episode 23
Kaiba is out to find Gosoboro and he thinks the man is probably sitting in his virtual office at the virtual Kaiba Corp.
The gang is trying to form a plan to get Noah. Joey wants to shake him upside-down. Yugi is blaming himself for trusting Noah, but Yami says there is nothing wrong with believing there is still good in someone. He believes they can still help Noah.
We hear Gosoboro laugh off camera and it looks like he might be playing chess. I think it’s supposed to symbolize how he’s treating everyone like pawns. As he moves the pieces duel monsters appear all around the gang. Serenity gets attacked and Joey steps in the way. Yugi summons Curse of Dragon who saves them. Then Joey summons a monster too.
Noah, in Mokuba’s body, heads to the control center. He plans to destroy the central computer thereby destroying all the minds trapped inside.
Seto has reached ‘his office’ and he was right – Gosoboro is there. Gosoboro shows Seto the gang and they aren’t faring well. Kaiba demands their release (wow!). Gosoboro suggests they settle this with a rematch of their earlier chess game. But instead of chess they will play a game of duel monsters. He wants to humiliate Seto by beating him at his own game. Seto agrees to the duel.
Back with Noah, just as he reprograms the satellite to destroy the control center Marik uses his rod to shut down the whole place. This releases the blimp and Kaiba’s men prepare for take off – as soon as they find everyone.
At the duel Gosoboro takes the first turn. He has all five Exodia cards, but Seto gets to chose which goes in his hand and the others are sent to the graveyard (thanks to a magic card.) Gosoboro doesn’t seem very upset though.
In the real world, back up generators bring the power back on line and Noah continues his efforts. Ignoring Marik he sets the satellite. Thirty minutes to destruction.
The gang is on the run and Yugi and Joey are still fighting monsters.
Marik appears in the control center and finds the countdown (Noah has already left). He thinks it is very amusing. Meanwhile Noah causes the vehicle they are on to surface and is planning to escape. He remembers all of his father’s lies, but he also remembers Mokuba and how kind he was. It bothers him, but it isn’t enough to stop him… or is it? Hearing the countdown he becomes distraught over what he has done and runs back to the control room. But Marik has destroyed the controls and there are only fifteen minutes left!
Kaiba has summoned Vorce Raider and he has one card face down. He destroys the last piece of Exodia. Then Gosoboro plays Contract with Exodia, a magic card that only works if all five pieces of Exodia are in the graveyard. Sacrificing 20000 life points he summons Exodia Necros. Seto is worried, until he sees that the monster only has 1800 attack points. Since his monster is stronger there should be no problem. Except that Gosoboro soon reveals Exodia Necros’ real power. As long as the five pieces of Exodia are in the graveyard it has five special abilities. It cannot be destroyed by monsters, magic, or traps. And it gains 1000 attack points each time it attacks.
This leaves Kaiba on the defensive.
Noah is frantically trying to warn the others so that they can escape. As the gang fights more monsters Noah manages to hack into the communication network and warn them.
The episode ends with shots of everyone in shock, including Gosoboro and Seto.
Notes: When the monsters appear Joey says “We should do something!” And Duke replies “Last I checked running was doing something.” You’ve got to love the cowardice ^__^
Who drew Seto this episode? He looks weird.
“I guess you never taught me manners.” – Seto to Gosoboro.
Anyone notice how much stuff they do now that requires giving up 2000 life points? That means they couldn’t even do it under Pegasus’ rules, unless they first found a way to boost their life points. That means those cards were designed to be a lot more difficult to use. Wonder if that’s why Kaiba raised the initial life points for his tournament…
