Episode 34
Mokuba races up to the duel tower as all of Battle city watches the live feed Mokuba put through.
Tristan comes in to tell the gang a chopper is coming for Joey. But they are distracted by the start of the duel of the God cards.
Obelisk starts out stronger than Slypher, but Slypher special ability (that second mouth that attacks when a new monster is summoned) kicks in, weakening Obelisk before he can attack. This prevents him from attacking this turn so Kaiba plays one card face down. Yami draws a card and then plays Pot of Greed allowing him to draw two more. Slypher now has 5000 attack pts. putting him 1000 pts stronger than Obelisk. Yami commands an attack, but Kaiba plays Command Silencer which prevents Slypher from hearing the command so he doesn't attack. (Cheesy isn't it? My brother swears they make up the cards and their abilities as they go - the duelists that is - and I'm beginning to agree.) Slypher is still stronger, but Kaiba's face down card is Life Shaver and it will lower Slypher's pts enough to destroy him.
Yami plays two cards face down. One is Card Destruction and he activates it, forcing them both to discard their hand and draw a new one. Then he plays a trap - Disgraceful Charity. Now they reclaim the cards they just discarded. Slypher is up to 6000 pts. But Kaiba drew a card that allows him to draw and summon three monsters. Then he plays Card Guard to protect them from Slypher's special ability. He also activates Obelisk's special ability which allows him to gain attack points by sacrificing the monsters on the field. As Obelisk attacks Yami summons Kuriboh causing it to multiply and defend his life pts (special ability).
Slypher attacks on Yami's next turn, but Kaiba plays Power Balance which forces Yami to discard three cards and Seto gets to draw three. Before Kaiba can attack Yami plays Necromancy, calling four cards from Kaiba's graveyard which Slypher immediately destroys. Because of the special effect of Necromancy Kaiba's remaining monsters lose 600 attack pts for each monster destroyed. This means Slypher is once again stronger than Obelisk. As Yami attacks Kaiba reveals that one of the cards Yami destroyed has an ability that now allows him to add 1000 pts to any monster - and he chooses Obelisk (duh!) Before Obelisk can destroy Slypher Yami reveals that when Kaiba played a card earlier a card was placed in the graveyard that left something on Slypher that prevents Obelisk's attack. (SO tired of this!) Yami plays a card face down. Currently Slypher is down to 1000 attack pts.
We have a lovely (not) Kaiba flashback of all his duels with Yami. He says they are now in the ultimate duel.
Kaiba attacks, but Yami plays a trap that allows him to discard and draw again (he has a lot of those). If he draws a magic card he can use it and if he doesn't he loses (because Slypher will be at zero pts). The magic card he draws (are you surprised? No? Heart of the cards my foot, we all know it's the puzzle J/k) forces both duelists to draw until they have six cards. Slypher is back up to 6000 pts. But Kaiba plays Life Shaver (finally!) making the two god cards even in power. Since an attack has already been called they clash and something strange happens. According to Kaiba his holographic system shouldn't have done that. Ishizu says that the true power of ancient Egypt is beginning to reveal itself and she fears for them all.
Notes: Somehow Rex Raptor knows what the god cards are. How is that???
How come sometimes if they attack a stronger monster their monster is destroyed, and sometimes it weakens the other monster and no one is destroyed?
Only Yami can make that wimpy deck do anything! How does Kuriboh, at only 300 attack pts, always manage to save him?
I supposed all that back and forth is the mark of a great duel, but it's getting really boring.
