Episode 12

Everyone is pretty upset with Zigfried, except Leon who says that Zigfried did have his reasons.  The gang is pretty certain that Kaiba got ahead all on his own and Kaiba is ready to move on.  However, he doesn’t want Zigfried kicked out; he wants him to see the duel. With Zigfried’s defeat Leon will face Yugi. He doesn’t seem too happy though, which is funny considering how happy he’s been the whole tournament.  The final duel will be held in the Blue Eyes Fortress.  The gang has the best seats in the house thanks to Mokuba.  Yugi is a little nervous since the title is on the line, but Yami says it will be fine.  As Leon heads to the dueling platform Zigfried stops him in the corridor.  He gives Leon a card and suddenly Leon is more sullen then ever.  By the time the duel begins he is outright belligerent.  Even Kaiba realizes that this is uncharacteristic for the boy – he’s been easy going the whole tournament.  Yugi is a little disturbed, but Yami says they must focus on the duel.

Yugi seems to have the definite upper hand, but Rebecca lets them know that all of Leon’s monsters have interesting special effects.  Leon tells Yugi that he is upset because he’s waited for this and can’t enjoy himself because he has a job to do.  Just then one of Kaiba’s men brings him information that Leon is Zigfried’s brother.  Evidently Zigfried’s real plan was to draw Kaiba’s attention while Leon rose in the ranks.  He wants publicity for his knew game release.  Kaiba’s a bit disgusted, but he can’t do much due to his rule that he can’t stop a duel mid-game.  Kaiba is far from worried, he’s convinced that no one but himself can beat Yugi.  Yugi is upset that Leon lied to them, but Yami is pretty convinced that Leon is just cowing to his older brother – and he’s determined to discover the truth. It turns out that Leon is doing this because it is the first time his brother has needed him.  Leon was always overlooked in his family and entertained himself with fairytales and then with duel monsters.  He dueled under a false name so that his family wouldn’t know, but Zigfried found out.  He was especially impressed with the way Leon hacked into tournament systems to get in.  He thinks that doing this will make him a real part of his family again.

He makes his next move and seems to believe it will be the last of the duel, but we all know better.

Notes: What is Mai doing in Kaiba Land?

Kaiba is so stuck on himself… why does he still think Yugi needs to prove himself?  Beating Kaiba 3 or four times isn’t enough?

Leon’s been waiting his entire life to face Yugi?  That can’t be long… he’s like, eight… and hasn’t Yugi only been on the map for a few years?

Love how Yami has to psychoanalyze and fix everyone during duels.  Very Japanese – the winner is right.  Although, in this case it’s more the person who is right happens to win.  Which is an example of the westernization of the Japanese culture.

Everyone in the Von Schroeder families has an accent except Leon.

What’s going to happen to Leon when he loses?
