How Mega is Mega?

I don't know about you but nothing drives me crazier than inconsistencies in a series.  Especially when the inconsistency deals with the level of skill or competence of the main character.  I'm so sick of animes where the main character is invincible for the first few episodes and then suddenly he can't do anything right.  Or, worse, sometimes he's amazing and sometimes (generally conveniently to teach us a 'lesson') he's an idiot.  When it comes to this type of inconsistency Megaman makes the top 5 on my list of most irritating.  Think about it: Megaman is supposed to be one of the "ultimate programs" and yet he's always getting knocked around by regular opponents and third rate villains.  While Chaud can log 'em out in 6 seconds it generally takes Lan and Megaman 10 minutes!  I understand that the show is about Megaman and Lan so we want to see them actually do things, but come on!  And what's worse is that in the first episode Megaman is this super fast, super strong, uber-amazing net navi.  I mean, he catches Gutsman's fist mid thomp.  And yet later he can't catch a punch from anyone.  I know we're all afraid of the dreaded "Mary Sue" character, even in the professional world, but it's okay to let your character be the best if that is supposed to be the point of the show!  You can't keep saying they're the best if you keep having them lose, or win by just the skin of their teeth.  It's pathetic... and, personally, if I wanted real people with flaws and inconsistencies I'd go to the mall, not to my TV.  Fantasy is fantasy we could have a little perfection!
