Sojiro Seta was orphaned as a boy and raised by other relatives who mistreated him.  One day he meets Shishio and allows him to hide in the rice storage area.  He rejects Shishio’s ideas, saying he prefers things the way they are, even if he is weak.  But when his family tries to kill him he kills them instead.  From that day he becomes emotionless.  He is always smiling and laughing.  He is an excellent swordsman (nearly equal to Kenshin), and is extremely fast. He firmly believes that the weak should die and the strong must kill them. In his final battle against Kenshin he relives his childhood regaining his emotions and some insight.  Kenshin encourages him to discover truth rather than accept someone else’s word, and a changed Sojiro sets out to find truth for himself by wandering Japan.
